The Saga Of My Fabio Infatuation

Fabio Fan Art

Don’t ask me why because I don’t know why. I have a weird obsession with Fabio.
It’s not his fabulous hair, his strong built, his handsome Italian look – I don’t know what attracts me to him. I don’t find him much a joke, but at the same time I kinda do because he doesn’t take himself seriously either. He exists, and his existence is fantastic.

I loved his cameo in the beginning of Zoolander where he wins the “Slashie Award” for Actor/Model and not the other way around, his five second dance in the sitcom Yes, Dear as the model of choice the characters were able to involve for a bucket list, and his part as a cult leader in Bubble Boy. I would join that cult if he was god. Well, I probably wouldn’t. I couldn’t bear to be surrounded by bright and shiny Todds and Lorraines. He does for sure make me like butter that isn’t real butter.

In the beginning of my art school days (2010 – 2011 to be exact), I included him in a lot of horribly produced assignments. Like really bad paintings, and I’m embarrassed to even show them. But this being a Fabio dedication post, here you go. (My artistic skills have definitely improved since then, FYI.)

(And oh my god, a romance cover spoof featuring him and a dog. This is horrid.)

And my favorite project including friends:

(A Fabio piñata made for a friend who was in Italy for the summer staying with a family, in which one of the family member’s name was Fabio. The sketch shown at the top of this post was a quick sketch to get acquainted with his face for this piñata project.)

(Obviously, being a piñata, we had to destroy Fabio, but I kept his leg as a souvenir which turned into the perfect paintbrush holder.)

I involved him a LOT. Maybe I went a little overboard. But he’s easy to draw – he’s got a good face for it. No wonder he was used as the model of choice for so many romance novel covers. Well for other reasons as too.
He’s just fantastic, and does not get enough credit for being a fantastic human being.

His Old Spice commercials are hilarious. I recommend you watch them. Here’s to Fabio!
