Painted Tea Towels

Holidays and birthdays bring out the crafty in me. Handmade gifts are kinda the best kind of gifts anyway.
For Christmas, I decorated these tea towels for a friend. She always quotes our favorite wise subway lady in Coming To America.

So I thought about putting that quote somewhere, and tea towels are what came to mind. I bought a three pack from Grove, super basic white towels.

I sketched out the quote a few times to see how I wanted it to be written. Then I hand drew it and painted it with my favorite Tulip fabric paint. I usually use it straight out of the tube but I decided to paint it with a brush.

The other two towels I contemplated for a while and thought to use some clear acrylic stamps I bought a while ago. My friend loves plants so it just made sense to me. I used blue and orange just like in the quoted towel. Gotta keep it consistent.

To finish up the towels, I wanted to use some sort of fringe or pom pom trim. I had bought this green pom trim from the Gift Wrap Company. I wasn’t sure about green, but I figured it’s already colorful. Why not add green.

The Coming To America references and love I’ve been getting by showing off these towels has been pretty funny and creative. I’m actually pretty psyched for the sequel. I believe Eddie Murphy will do it justice. Are you looking forward to it?
