Arte De Los Muertos

Day Of The Dead is here! I’ve always had an appreciation for this Mexican holiday, but what really drew me in was the traditional Mexican folk art and decorative sugar skulls.

I made this postcard design about four years ago for a school assignment. Around this time Mexican folk art really influenced the kind of work I did while I was in school, and continues to influence me today with personal projects that I take on. The colors and designs really fit my aesthetic, and that’s one big reason why I appreciate the visuals of Dia De Los Muertos. The colors, shapes, curlicues, and flowers are combined and executed in ways that are just so appealing.

So let’s use today to remember and honor those whom are no longer with us. Go paint your faces, visit your departed, bring them some marigolds, and don’t forget to turn back your clocks!
