Happy National Thrift Store Day!

Thrift shopping has always been my preferred shopping and has been for a long time. It really has a lot of perks.

☞ You can find a lot of one of the kind items – be it apparel, accessories, home goods, etc.
☞ Everything is super affordable.
☞ It’s exciting browsing through bins, shelves, and hangers, especially since the selection is constantly changing.
☞ It’s thrilling wondering what unique item you’ll walk away with, especially if it’s vintage and/or designer.
☞ Thrifting is a better option for the environment at the end of the day.
☞ You’re supporting charities by buying from thrift shops.
☞ You can set up some pretty cool and fun DIY projects.

In celebration of today’s day, I gathered a list of some pretty great thrift stores in my neighborhood. New York has loads of thrift shops; a lot of the best thrift shops are not in Manhattan itself, but in the other four boroughs. If you’re in Astoria, Queens, these following shops are worth checking out!

Bravo Thrift Store 32-06 43rd Street
Astoria, NY 11103
Broadway Thrift Shop 41-14 Broadway
Astoria, NY 11103
Ditmars Thrift Shop 31-20 Ditmars Blvd
Astoria, NY 11105
Hour Children’s Shop 31-24 Steinway Street
Astoria, NY 11103
Salvation Army 34-02 Steinway St
Astoria, NY 11101
Steinway Thrift Shop 25-88 Steinway St
Astoria, NY 11103

For 2020, I have a plan to strictly buy from second hand shops and customize my wardrobe pretty much entirely. It’ll be my way of thinking environmentally and creatively. With that being the case, I imagine I’ll be visiting these shops often.

Next time you consider shopping, think about shifting to thrift. You never know what fun items you’ll find!
