Sliced Cork Bulletin Board

I can’t tell you how long I’ve been working on this project. Probably for over a year? I recently just finished it and what better time to post about it but now in this new year?

So, basically, my brother had a batch of corks and I tried to come up with a simple project to use them. I decided to make a bulletin board.

I just felt it would be best if I cut the corks into thirds. It would make an interesting pattern, and I wanted a large bulletin board with an interesting pattern.

Pom Pom Christmas Tree

Christmas countdown: 8 days.
Ah!

We were a little late with the Christmas decor in our apartment. It’s our first Christmas here, and we didn’t decorate as much as we talked about doing months ago when we had our first Christmas talk. Obviously a tree was needed but that’s the majority of what we spent money on.

There are real trees available for sale like three different spots walking distance from home, so my roommate and I stopped oneday to see if there was a tree was workable in our small apartment. We found a precious baby tree, which we named Jerri, and we talked about ornament ideas.

After browsing Pinterest, I thought simple pom poms would be cute.

So a quick back story of our pom poms: we were going to make a trip to the local craft store but after attending a booth at the Bust Craftacular fair in Brooklyn last weekend, we obtained SO many free pom poms. This couple was selling handmade jewelry and bought pom poms for some DIY thing to do at their booth with attendees but something went awry and they didn’t have all the supplies they needed, so they were giving away pom poms. They told me to take as much as I wanted, and with their permission, I got greedy and really grabbed enough for our baby tree. Free pom poms: win!

Tiny Embroidery Hoop Decor

I don’t remember why I bought these tiny embroidery hoops, but I’m sure at the time I had some kind of project in mind. It was so long ago that the right side of my brain basically reset and thought to do something cute for my current apartment.
I created this bigger hoop with a “galaxy scene” for a class project from a bunch of years ago. I brought it back into my life by incorporating it into my living room a couple of weeks ago and decided to do some kind of “galaxy thing” for the tiny hoops.

Beaded Room Divider

As much as I want to preach about how we need positive distractions from the election aftermath, I feel like a hypocrite saying so because I can’t help but ignore positive distractions. I’m frustrated and can’t stop thinking about our future and the people already being affected by the hate that was promoted, but I have to get myself back to my everyday life. And so should you.

Here is a project I had in the back of my mind for a few weeks before I acted on it.
I first came across a wall divider made of rope and it sparked an idea. I looked to Pinterest for more inspiration, as well as bouncing ideas with my roommate.

I liked the idea of beads, and I have a TON of beads I didn’t know how to utilize. They were mostly those chunky beads you use when you’re young to make really colorful and tacky bracelets and necklaces. Being a hoarder, I saved them all and thought hanging them up as room dividers would be a great place to use them.

Stranger Things Tapestry

Last week I posted about a Stranger Things tapestry I created and uploaded to my Redbubble account.

After double checking to make sure the size of the file was correct, I ordered the smallest tapestry size because it fits our wall best. It didn’t take too long to be delivered, but we were on the edge of our seats waiting to see how it’d come out.

This To That // Mirror Mirror

One, I apologize for the dirty mirror. I actually Photoshopped a lot of the dirty marks out. Shhh, don’t tell anyone…
Two, can we discuss how there is no good angle to take a mirror picture? A selfie is not my intention, but you can’t avoid it when you’re trying to show a mirror redo.

Pillow Talk

With everything that’s been happening lately, I’ve been trying to keep myself busy with art projects. I figured it’s what my aunt would have wanted and enjoyed seeing. She was always interested in seeing what I was capable of creating.

So with this recent project, let me start by saying this was supposed to go in a different direction.
My couch needs some fun stuff happening to it (a bigger project possibly involving patchwork is in the works). In the meantime I wanted simple and fun. I came across eye pillows that caught my eye 😉.

Movin’ On Up

If you want to know the truth, this is the first time I’ve turned on my laptop since mid-May. Part of me was nervous my laptop would be in such a deep sleep that it wouldn’t turn on, or I would forget how to use it. But fear not, those turned out not to be problems.

So, where have I gone? What have I been doing?
Long story short, in May I went on a hardcore apartment search. I officially found a great 2 bedroom apartment with my friend in Astoria, Queens. Memorial day weekend we moved in, and I have been adjusting since. I didn’t realize I would be MIA for over two months, but I learned that it is quite a process to furnish a whole apartment and to set things up such as internet, gas/electric, etc. My daily life after work consisted of unpacking, food shopping, and cleaning for a while.
