Flames

Before Christmas, I submitted a piece to Feels Zine, whom were taking submissions for their anger theme. The first thing that came to mind when I thought of anger was Mrs. White in Clue talking about flames…on the side of her face.

Ode To A Box On Four Wheels; How The Nomadic Mermaid Got Her Fins

Guest post written by Victoria

Way back in March of 2017, I totaled my sweet little Kia Soul — Aretha Franklin. At just over fifty-thousand miles, she was only halfway through her warranty, one of two major deciding factors in her purchase. The other, and biggest, push to buy was found in the pages of the brochure — a glossy image of a young guy camping out of the back of his car. The trunk was open and he was curled up with blankets, seats folded flat, looking out with a soft smile at a crisp, cerulean ocean view. For the briefest of nanoseconds my heart stopped. This is where I want to be.

Three days later I was the proud owner of a brand new black 2013 Kia Soul — the three miles on her were put there by my test drive. And for almost five years, we learned how to nomad together as she saw me through one of my deepest transformation periods yet!

And then she gave her life to save mine.

A Truly Saucy Entertainment List

Lately, tv has been consuming a lot of my time. I feel like everyone who knows me, knows that I’m cool with that. This time around for this list, I’ve got new music and tv series to add to this list. Very reflective of my life these days.

TV/MOVIES

Sweet/Vicious
Being an original MTV series, I was a little skeptical that this would be a good show, but it covers the tough subject of rape on the college campus and vigilante justice – something that isn’t talked about on tv. Well, maybe the occasional Law & Order episode, but that’s pretty much it. I decided to give this show a watch and I ended up binge watching the entire series in one day. Oops! It was pretty great; I got really into the double lives the main characters were playing, but unfortunately, it didn’t make it past one season. The internet is frustrated about MTV’s decision so hopefully some other platform will give the series a chance. Anyone…? Netflix…?

World Goth Day

Happy World Goth Day! I didn’t even know this was a day that was “celebrated” but it makes me so happy that it is.

I don’t really have much photos from back in middle school/high school featuring my extreme black phases. Without me asking, people liked bringing it to my attention that I was more punk than goth, but my music taste was pretty broad where I dabbled in the goth genre.

In terms of music, goth spawned from the post-punk scene which is why some bands from the 70’s – 80’s have a slight punk sound. These days, the genre has evolved with electronics replacing brooding guitars, industrial sounds resembling machines, classical strings with opera-like voices, or basic rock mimicking it’s roots with and updated gloomy feeling.

Pop Words // Lies

01. The past few months, my coworker has had an 80’s station playing on Pandora, and Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac plays every day. I won’t complain because it’s a great song, but it definitely made me appreciate their other vocalist, Christine McVie. Don’t get me wrong, I love Stevie Nicks and I want to hear her sing everything all the time, but it’s hard to imagine Stevie singing lead on this track. I love bands that share vocal duties, which is what makes Fleetwood Mac such a classic.

Cool Links Via The Internet

The Internet is full of so much greatness. I come across so many great links and videos that I don’t know what to do with – the type you just need to share. So here’s a small list of links and videos I recommend.

01. Saddest Calendar on the Internet: A Daily Tracker of Trump’s Damage – Pretty much self explanatory. This calendar keeps you up to date with the daily actions Trump has been making, which is frustrating but informative. It’s the kind of news we need to keep up with so we know what we’re fighting for. Everyday there seems to be something new we need to fight for. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to get exhausted.

02. This Guy Turns OCD Hoarding Into Amazing Photos – Photographer Jim Golden photographs objects into collections in such an organized fashion. I love flat lays that are so organized amazingly like this. I appreciate how he groups similar items together. It’s just so fun…and so damn well organized.

Depeche Mode Meets Anton Corbijn

Depeche Mode Where's The Revolution GIF

I think it’s been said and well proven that Depeche Mode is one of the most influential bands from the 80s, appealing to so many genres, including metal. Their sound is iconic as well as their bondage and leather fashion. For years they worked with photographer/director Anton Corbijn who created their iconic visuals. I just love them so dearly and I think Dave Gahan has the best male voice ever. It’s so soulful and soothing which is show in the songs he recorded with Soulsavers. FACT!

The band just released their 14th (!!!) album and it’s great. It has a fair share of their usual love songs plus a decent amount of political ones which is pretty appropriate for today between Trump & Brexit. People often complain about bands singing about politics when it’s not a usual topic for them. They’ve wrote some known political songs in the past, so this doesn’t bother me and I feel like it shouldn’t bother anyone else.

With their new album and video out now, it’s got me all hyped on all things Depeche Mode. Since they’ve worked for so many years with Anton Corbijn (which kinda reminds be of the Tim Burton/Danny Elfman relationship), I made a list of my favorite Depeche Mode videos directed by Corbijn.
