Vacation Unexpectations

Streets of Chania, Crete

Finally have a chance to check in. I have to admit, looking at previous posts while being in Greece, it didn’t hit me until now how much I’ve done the past nine months. I made my big move to the west coast almost a year ago, and even though I’ve moved back home since then, I really haven’t been in New York much. I began the year in Portland, with a week in Louisiana a few months later, and now two months in Greece. Even though this was definitely not how I imagined things would play out, I was lucky to get out and explore this year because if I was still in Portland, none of these trips would have happened. Life would be so different, so I’m becoming appreciative for this free time.

Crazy, Stupid, Love Notes

Graffiti In Athens, Greece

I’m just having fun with the titles at this point. I decided from now on I’m going to stay away from numbering the post titles because it gets a bit boring. I just hope y’all get the references.

Anywho, here’s another batch of some graffiti I’ve found across Athens, plus a gif of highway art for your viewing pleasure!

Color Study // Pretty In Athens Pink

For months now, I’ve been obsessing over houses – the combination of the structures and colors. I’m starting to think that my future home is going to be real wild. It’s going to consist of color blocks. I’m really loving color blocks.

I’ve been especially obsessing over pink houses. The construction of Greek houses and apartments are much different than what you’d see in America. Seeing them painted pink makes them even more interesting. A lot of the apartment buildings here are either an orangey-peach or peachy-pink. They’re all very peachy.

From Athens With Love Notes

Graffiti in Athens, Greece

I’ve been bouncing around between family member’s homes, so I apologize for the lack of posts. This week I’ve been staying with my uncle and his family. They have an 8 month year old son, so I’m sure you could imagine how our days have been. Hectic and occupied, if you really can’t imagine. Aside from that, the weather is working its way to an unbearable scorching level – and to think we’re not even near mid-summer.

Since my last Love Notes post, I’ve been coming across a whole lot of interesting graffiti that I’ve been photographing, so I have quite a bit to share in the few batches of Love Notes posts.

Protest In Athens

Protest In Athens, Greece

I’m not political, in fact I don’t know much happening in the world of politics in general. I’m completely clueless. But with the craziness happening in Greece right now, I can’t help but talk about it.

Love Notes In Athens

Graffiti in Athens, Greece

With the afflicted government and financial situation here in Greece, I’ve noticed that the city of Athens has become a hotspot for all things murals and graffiti. When I was down in New Orleans two months ago, I was loving all the graffiti I had seen everywhere, but Athens is a whole other story; this city takes the cake. People are frustrated with the economic state of the country, and they take it out on the walls of all the buildings here for everyone to see. It’s a sad situation, but it’s a fascinatingly visual treat.

Shower Thoughts

Streets of Athens, Greece

(Athens on a nice, sunny day. ☀ Unrelating to showers, I know. )

Shower time is my personal thinking time. I’ve become a pro at questioning the most random of the random while I’m scrubbing my hair, as I’m sure it is a good thinking time for other people as well.
So here are some random thoughts I’ve had while being here in Greece. Only have been here a full week and I’ve had a lot on my mind already questioning the differences between Europe and America.

The Wrath of Mercury

Mercury In Retrograde

I have landed in Athens. Been here for a little less than a week. Still adjusting to the time change, have obtained wifi, figured out adapters and convertors that work with my electronics, and I’m slowly making my rounds to visit family.

Everything is fine and dandy now, but I can’t even tell you the hell I went through to get here. All I kept hearing from everyone was “Mercury must be in retrograde“. After I have arrived, I Googled it, and yes yes, Mercury is indeed in retrograde. I don’t know much about astrology, but whenever a situation occurs in which the alignments of the stars and planets affect my everyday day life, I do my research. I read that Mercury affects travel (along with other things), and my travel was affected for sure.

Love Notes In New Orleans

Graffiti in New Orleans

I think this will be the last post of my New Orleans trip? I saw quite a bit graffiti, murals, and signs while visiting. I wish I captured more but there was that issue of trying to live in the moment and not behind a camera. And so I decided to live in the moment and visually take in everything I saw of the city.

New Orleans Summary

Unfortunately my awesome vacation has come to an end; just got back home today.
I’m not going to go into much depth about the daily shenanigans we participated in, but I’ll quickly summarize.
