Arte De Los Muertos

Day Of The Dead is here! I’ve always had an appreciation for this Mexican holiday, but what really drew me in was the traditional Mexican folk art and decorative sugar skulls.

This To That // Faux Leather Knee Patch Pants

Faux Leather Knee Patch Jeans
I’ve been trying to stay on a roll with crafting and doing. I’ve also been trying to finish projects and ideas I came up with a while ago, because one of the worst things is letting unfinished projects pile up.

Over a year ago I came across some jeans with patches on the knees. I saw a variety with denim patches and faux leather patches on different colored pants. I really liked this, and figured it was a project I could take on myself. Plus it’s an easy DIY to jazz up some boring pants.

This To That // Wooden Coffin Box

DIY Painted Coffin Box

One thing I love about when Autumn rolls around is the amount of cute, festive Halloween goods I come across. I sort of make it a personal annual tradition to go shopping for Halloween themed goodies. For me, I like having year round things that I could use that are fun and spooky. This season so far I’ve found a candy corn ring, retractable pumpkin pens, black cat bowls, and this unfinished little coffin I bought from the local craft store.

Mermaid Wall Art

Mermaid Art

I think one thing that’s really cool is how everyone has their own interpretation of what they think mermaid art is. Really random topic, I know, but I wanted to share what my interpretation is. Spoiler: it involves scales, blue-teal-green, and a whole lot of glitter.

Fast & Frightening Type

L7 Fast & Frightening Quote

As I’ve shared my love for empowering 90’s grungey bands, L7 (who recently reunited, woo!) was one band that was on rotation in my CD player for a long time. They’re straight up badass women who prove stereotypes are wrong when it comes to the idea of women being “fragile” and “weak”, especially in the rock world known as the “boy’s club”. They’ve made so many shocking headlines (I was going to insert a link, but they’ve had so many shocking moments that there are too many moments to single out just one moment from one link…what?). They basically had a lot of “unlady-like” 🙌 moments. Okay, I’ll stop with the “air quotes”.

Tie Dye Shirts

Tie Dye Shirts

A few years ago, my brother decided he wanted to tie dye a bunch of his shirts just for the heck of it. No reason at all. He goes through weird phases every so often.

Of course he got tired of having these shirts and offered them to me before he got rid of them. I can’t say no to tie dye so I took them.
Knowing me, I tried to come up with plans to change these up and maybe even put them in my shop. I didn’t have intentions of keeping them for myself as my closet is already filled with clothes.
I kinda winged it, but I had the thought that the first plan was to take the sleeves off and do a swap with other fabric.

This To That // Gwen Stefani Pants

Gwen Stefani Settle Down Pants

Let me take a quick second to tell you about one person that inspires me to no end. But you can probably already guess since her name is in the title. Yea, Gwen. I’ve already written about how much I love No Doubt, but I probably will mention it a lot more in the future. Fair warning here.

Anyway, as a lot of Gwen fans can probably share, she’s the reason why I started taking sewing seriously. I went from sewing clothes for my Barbies, to wristbands (I sewed a lot imitating Gwen’s arm accessories during the Rock Steady era), to sewing shirts for myself, and I can’t stop. I have been for years inspired by her cool style and she inspires me to try to be cool with my style. I don’t know if it’s working, but I do what I can.

Red Rose Banner

Red Rose Banner

I’ve had quite a bit of built up creative energy since I’ve been out of the country for a while. I’m the kind of person that constantly needs project to fall back on when I have downtime, so being away for three months without any projects to do was kinda painful. Luckily, as I mentioned before, my aunt owns a textile shop, and we were walking distance from some local shops selling sewing supplies (alliteration <3).

When I started this project, I didn’t have an idea of what I wanted the finish product to be. I just gathered all sorts of different red fabric from scraps my aunt gave me. I just thought to embroider roses and that’s what I did. Eventually I came to the idea that I wanted to turn them into a banner. I love pennant banners and thought a different take on it would be a fun idea.

Courtney Love Doll Parts Quote

Working on my typography game, I chose a quote this time around by the Hole song Doll Parts.
These are lyrics that I’m sure a lot of girls can relate to. Not only do I feel for it, but it’s also quite the visual quote which made it fun to work with.
