Fuzzy Dresser Drawers

Before the company I work for enforced a textile recycle program, I used to grab fabric from the trash bags other designers threw out. Literally, so. much. fabric.
I came across a small bag of fuzzy material that was being trashed and I couldn’t just leave it behind. I took it and ran.

As for the dresser, I had this wooden dresser since as long as I could remember. Knobs were falling off, the drawers got all scratched up – it was a bit of a mess and I wanted to fix it real bad. I thought to glue on the fuzzy material and buy new knobs and BAM – a fresh and fun dresser.

Monochrome Bead Picture Frames

One day browsing through the internet, I was looking at some ornate frames and was trying to think of ways to imitate it. I wasn’t about to buy a block of wood and carve shapes and textures into it. So I thought “I have a ton of beads that I can glue onto cheap flat frames”. Maybe paint them all monochrome after that. I kinda just winged it after gluing beads down.

Define Adult

The past month for me involved moving and then adjusting to a new home. My roommate and I put a little over two years at our other apartment and we took the next step into finding a new place with a friend of ours. We upgraded from two bedrooms to three bedrooms. I had it in my head that as soon as you upgrade to 3+ bedrooms, apartments automatically get much bigger.

The beginning of our search didn’t make me feel so confident about large living spaces, as the majority of our viewings were pretty small apartments. I’ll admit – I got agitated and probably unbearable to deal with. As soon as you include a third person into the mix, more compromising has to occur and I was dead set on what I wanted. Luckily in the end, we found a place we’re all happy with and we’re settled in.

Washi Tape Hanging Skewers

The summer seems to be flying by as August is coming up in a few days. The time is also coming for me to move into a new place with my roommate and a friend. Living the rental life, we have to think of creative ways of using up wall space while not making any holes.

Hanging Rag Tassels

After being absent for a month, I’m feeling confident coming back with some new projects, words, and pop culture sharing.

I’ve been quite into the “rag” projects lately. There’s nothing like using fabric you don’t have a use for. This rag rug is a good project to make a dent, especially when you make multiple. I made another one for a friend and I may potentially make an area rug size for another friend. It feels good making space in your fabric scrap drawers.

Rag Rug DIY

I have a lot of fabric scraps and not enough projects to use them for. While Googling some random craft projects, this rag rug project popped out at me and I thought to make a small one for myself. ~ Anything to use these fabric scraps ~ I looked up ways to make this rug and I came to realize it wasn’t so hard. Like it was actually pretty super easy. Just time consuming, that’s all.

I bought a decently big size non-slip rug mat, the kind that you put under rugs to prevent slipping. Because of the small squares, it makes for a good base to tie fabric strips through each square, or every other square. Since it was big, I cut it to the size that I wanted. It came out to a random size – about 22 inches X 17 inches.

Pom Pom Pillow

A few months ago, I decided to embark on a frustrating journey to make a pillow with one side covered in pom poms. I had the fabric, I had the yarn, but I didn’t have the pom poms pre-made, so I had to spend the time to make them.

I wanted to make a generously large pillow, so I knew that it would need a big chunk of fabric and ton of pom poms.

This To That // Menu Holder

Organization is important. It’s so easy to get messy, making it hard to find what you’re looking for in your own home sometimes. I’ve been buying the occasional plastic container to store things, but truth is I haven’t been paying much attention to keeping the kitchen organized.

I was in the kitchen the other day and noticed the lack of free magnets on the fridge which made me realize we just had too many restaurant menus on the fridge. If they weren’t there, we’d have so many free magnets.

So, with that thought, I figured if i just constructed something quick with cardboard, I can use command strips to hang it on the wall. Luckily there was a cereal box in our recycling bin which made things so much easier.

Band T-shirt Pillow Case

Last year I made the decision to really clean out a lot of my closet and, really, things in general. I got rid of loads of stuff. Every so often I had to made some hard decisions because I’m attached to everything I own.

When I was younger, I was way into collecting band t-shirts. I couldn’t stop. I had so much, but the thing is that I wore all of them so I didn’t feel right getting rid of any of them. So I had an excessive pile of band shirts.

Over the years, my wardrobe and style changed. I wore less and less of them and they just sat there taking up space in my closet. So I gathered all the shirts I couldn’t part ways with but didn’t wear anymore and set up some sewing projects for them. One idea was to making pillow cases out of them. I had the project set up but I didn’t execute it until recently. So I went for it making one pillow case to see how it would come out.

I gathered similar colored shirts. In this case I picked out my black and white ones. I took them apart, and compared measurements to a pillow case I already owned.

Taco Tuesday Embroidery Hoop Art

After eight months of being in this apartment, I’m actually starting to feel settled and comfortable. Along with that feeling, I’ve been feeling good about the projects I’ve been getting done lately. Especially the ones that have been lingering for a while. Being halfway done with the first month of the new year, I’ve been feeling pretty accomplished so far which really gives my self esteem quite the boost.

Anywho, at some point past year I started collecting embroidery hoops without having any idea of what exactly I wanted to do with them. (I kinda feel like all my posts start this way. I just got hit with that groundhog’s day feeling) So, being settled into the apartment finally, I’ve been all about decorating the walls, but more like themed decorating. More so each wall has its own theme. I’ve been trying to keep the kitchen walls covered with food and kitchen related art. I recently was encouraged to make some of my own art, being that I’ve got all the supplies to do so. I guess you can say my excess embroidery hoops and the recent hoop stuff I made encouraged me to do so. In this case, instead of using beads, I wanted to actually do some fun embroidery art. I had a few ideas but settled on making some taco art because I love tacos.
