Rain Gear Set

I’ve been quite a busy bee and I’m happy I finally get to share projects I’ve been working on. I don’t talk about my 9-5 life too much. I like to keep work thoughts at work and I stop thinking about work as soon as I leave the building.

But, when exciting things happen then I’m cool to talk about it. I work for a small shoe company. We make affordable footwear, mostly in kid sizes appealing to lower income families and parents who need something cheap since they watch their children grow out of their shoes in the blink of an eye. For now, I’m the only designer which has plenty of tough and busy moments, but is also rewarding when I see some of our products in stores.

We worked on a project with Christmas Tree Shops, which we started last summer. They wanted to create a rain gear set: rain boots, jackets, and umbrellas – all matching back to eachother. Some designs are older, made from the designer who worked there before me, so I can’t take credit for everything. But, my pride and joy is my mermaid set.

The biggest portion of our line consists of kids rain boots. It sells the best and it encourages us to come up with more designs and styles of rain boots. It’s also where I get to have more fun coming up with funky prints. There are some tedious moments where I develop artist-block or get feedback from clients who ask to see more variations of prints we already have and seen too much of in the market (ex: more police and fireman prints. There’s only so many things you can do with police and fireman prints).

This is my kinda brag post, mostly because I’m relieved to see this project finished and in stores. We’re currently in the middle of some more fun projects and I can’t wait to discuss them when they’re out!
