Pom Pom Christmas Tree

Christmas countdown: 8 days.
Ah!

We were a little late with the Christmas decor in our apartment. It’s our first Christmas here, and we didn’t decorate as much as we talked about doing months ago when we had our first Christmas talk. Obviously a tree was needed but that’s the majority of what we spent money on.

There are real trees available for sale like three different spots walking distance from home, so my roommate and I stopped oneday to see if there was a tree was workable in our small apartment. We found a precious baby tree, which we named Jerri, and we talked about ornament ideas.

After browsing Pinterest, I thought simple pom poms would be cute.

So a quick back story of our pom poms: we were going to make a trip to the local craft store but after attending a booth at the Bust Craftacular fair in Brooklyn last weekend, we obtained SO many free pom poms. This couple was selling handmade jewelry and bought pom poms for some DIY thing to do at their booth with attendees but something went awry and they didn’t have all the supplies they needed, so they were giving away pom poms. They told me to take as much as I wanted, and with their permission, I got greedy and really grabbed enough for our baby tree. Free pom poms: win!

So with that said, I had a batch of colorful pom poms, elastic thread, needle, and scissor, and experimented with making pom pom ornaments.

I threaded the needle with my elastic, poked through the middle of the pom pom, pulled and poked through again to make a loop. I tied the top and bottom and cut off the excess at the bottom creating a nice, clean elastic loop.

It took me a good night’s worth to finish threading this batch of pom poms.

I had no idea if elastic was the way to go as opposed to regular thread, but it turned out to be the best decision because it hugged each branch super nicely. It was an accidental success.

On top of that, I created a nice star at the top of the tree with Cher’s face. It adds a little more oomph to our tree instead of a tradition star, because Cher is a star. She’s our star!

Christmas! Tree! Pom poms! Cher!
There you have it.
