Rainbow Faces

Portrait

First off, happy August! Can’t believe how far into the year we are already. This also means that I will be in Greece for three more weeks. I can’t believe I’ve been here two months already. Boy does time REALLY fly.

Onto the topic of the post…so, my aunt owns a textile shop here in Athens, but is not only limited to working with textiles. She does murals, displays, portraits, etc. I may or may not have gotten my artistic genes from her. Anyway, my aunt recently took a job with a client to make her curtains and pillows but along the way, the conversation became about art and all of a sudden I was assigned a job to do portraits by the client’s brother. He wanted a portrait of his daughters. This discussion was weeks ago, but because of the economic crisis here, the project was delayed.

Dog Portrait On Wood

This 2020 is bringing the crafty witch out in me. I was commissioned to do this pet portrait by a friend of her precious baby girl that passed away. Jessie was fierce but also a big mush. Forget those pitbull stereotypes.

Anywho, I love working on wood, and I had all intentions of painting this portrait, but I decided to take a different route after I sketched everything out.

Environmentally Friendly Replacements For Your Kitchen

For about two years, Sundays have been my meal prep day with my roommate. We’ve experimented with all sorts of meals for our work lunches, and most times than not, they’ve been successful. Of course we have some busy weekends where we have to rework our prepping schedule, but at the end of the day, we’ve learned more so that we feel lost during the week when we don’t have our lunch set for ourselves.

With that said, we spend a good chunk of time in the kitchen. With all this climate change talk happening, it dawned on me how much we waste on a daily basis. I’ve been taking baby steps here and there to incorporate reusable items in our home as best as I could. Of course, living with roommates, you can’t just tell them what to do. I give them the option to try out the reusable items I’m bringing into our home.
I’ve learned a lot. What works and what doesn’t, and I wanted to share my list of reusable kitchen items that I’ve tried and/or have been wanting to try!

That ’70s Style // Jackie Edition

You know when you don’t have cable but you still get a few channels for free when you plug in the cable cord? Well, surprisingly, we don’t get channel 2 or any of the other basic channels. Instead, we have the LAFF channel and the Grit channel. Because we don’t have a good, wide variety of channels, we tend to only watch LAFF.

On that channel, I’ve watched a whole lot of Night Court, Roseanne, Drew Carey Show, and That ’70s Show. I’m not a big fan of That ’70s Show, but it’s growing on me. I’ve mostly been watching it for the psychedelic scene transitions, and Jackie Burkhart’s outfits.

A Truly Nasty Entertainment List

I’ve had the word nasty on my mind a bit too much lately. Thanks, Trump!
I composed a list of things I’ve been into that could be more on the nasty side than innocent. Lots of things I’d consider goodies here!

TV SERIES

Ash VS Evil Dead
An awesome revival of the hit cult horror movie series Evil Dead. After tuning in last year to the series premiere on Halloween night, I was immediately hooked. The gore and dialogue has such a cheesy feel, but it’s more of a modern spoof on the old movie series. I recommend this so much if you don’t mind some gore and guts. Bruce Campbell is such a hunk 😛 The cast is great, and Lucy Lawless is my badass homegirl. I’ve become addicted to this show.

Why I Create

I’ll be honest. In general, I’m all around very self conscious. As much as I try to be confident about my appearance and attitude, criticism and judgements affects me more than I’d like to admit. I’m sure a lot of people can relate.

Recently, I’ve come to realize that the crowd I’ve been surrounding myself with has a much different taste than me. I feel like I’m losing connection with people who believe in hobbies, and those who don’t criticize others for having said hobbies. Or I guess, this is “growing up”? ♫ ♪

Red Rose Banner

Red Rose Banner

I’ve had quite a bit of built up creative energy since I’ve been out of the country for a while. I’m the kind of person that constantly needs project to fall back on when I have downtime, so being away for three months without any projects to do was kinda painful. Luckily, as I mentioned before, my aunt owns a textile shop, and we were walking distance from some local shops selling sewing supplies (alliteration <3).

When I started this project, I didn’t have an idea of what I wanted the finish product to be. I just gathered all sorts of different red fabric from scraps my aunt gave me. I just thought to embroider roses and that’s what I did. Eventually I came to the idea that I wanted to turn them into a banner. I love pennant banners and thought a different take on it would be a fun idea.
